SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 16

Prezioso, McCabe, Anderson, Helmick, Fanning, Edgell, Kessler,
Minard, Sharpe, Mitchell, Love, Burnette, Rowe, Craigo, McKenzie,
Sprouse, Oliverio and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Designating March 13, 2001, as "Women's Day".

Whereas, Women comprise 52 percent of the population of the
State of West Virginia; and

Whereas, West Virginia is proud of the accomplishments and
achievements of West Virginia's women; and

Whereas, In their roles as workers, mothers, friends,
caretakers, companions, daughters, activists, sisters, volunteers
and wives, women make enormous contributions to West Virginia's
economy, families and communities; and

Whereas, Women of West Virginia are gathered today at the
Legislature to celebrate their achievements and draw attention to
the continued need for work on equity issues; and

Whereas, Women of West Virginia are also celebrating the
accomplishments of the suffragettes who secured the vote for all
women; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates March 13, 2001, as "Women's
Day" and celebrates the enormous contributions of women to the
success of the state; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the West Virginia Women's Commission.
