SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 16

Designating March 13, 2001, as "Women's Day".
Whereas, Women comprise 52 percent of the population of the State of West Virginia; and
Whereas, West Virginia is proud of the accomplishments and achievements of West Virginia's women; and
Whereas, In their roles as workers, mothers, friends, caretakers, companions, daughters, activists, sisters, volunteers and wives, women make enormous contributions to West Virginia's economy, families and communities; and
Whereas, Women of West Virginia are gathered today at the Legislature to celebrate their achievements and draw attention to the continued need for work on equity issues; and
Whereas, Women of West Virginia are also celebrating the accomplishments of the suffragettes who secured the vote for all women; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby designates March 13, 2001, as "Women's Day" and celebrates the enormous contributions of women to the success of the state; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the West Virginia Women's Commission.
